That was a question we asked in a recent survey we posted on social media. Not surprisingly, most of the things employees thought were important before the pandemic, weren’t as important now. And that makes perfect sense since a large number of employees are still working remotely.

One thing we found that was surprising? Out of all the responses we received, 50% of those working from home are still doing that work from their kitchen or dining room table rather than at a desk or in a dedicated office.

I love driving my grandson to school. Practicing times tables, spelling words, test question review, that time when it was raining on one side of the street and not the other. Yes, that happened and yes he still references it. Any “parent” that drives a child to and from school knows that those are the times when communication is the best. The idea came to me when my Mother was passing. I was 38, had just lost my last pregnancy (invitro), owned my own business with my husband, his adult daughter was in recovery for the X time and I was hearing about the “sandwich generation”. People with children caring for their parents and their children at the same time. That was me. But I also had a company to run, clients that depended on me as well as employees and their families who were also dependents on me generating enough profit to keep all of us whole—I was the “entrepreneurial sandwich generation”—which to me seemed exponentially more overwhelming than the regular sandwich generation.
